The first time I spotted eyeliner appliques was a during my teens when I got some free with a teen mag, they where stiff shiny plastic, baby pink sparkly stick on eyeliner strips and they were hideous. As with temporary tattoos this is another things from the past that have been reinvented. The first reinvented version of this product that I spotted was the Dior Velvet Eye appliques which were truly stunning, then there were the Eye Rock versions (which I’m yet to try) and now we have Glam Republic’s offerings available in Superdrug.
They come in different styles and materials, the thicker ones on the left are a black glitter material and the thinner ones are black velvet. Now then, I just love my vintage inspired flicks, I wear them almost every day. When I first spotted these I wondered if they might be easier than hand drawing liner and secondly I was excited about the different textures. They work like false lases, they are self adhesive on first go but come with a little vial of eyelash style glue.
Ok, so before you see my attempt at applying these little things, can I just say that I absolutely suck at applying false lashes, I have tons of lashes because I actually love them, but being someone who wears them on very special occasions, I’m not particularly skilled at application. This pair is very thin, so I found them very fiddly to apply and nearly gave up on several occasions, but in the name of blogging I stuck with it.
As you can see, I had extreme trouble trying to get theses to sit right on the lash line, I think you need a bit more skill than me to do this, or more patience. You can a better look at them with my eyes closed.
So once you do apply them properly, you will get symmetrical liner very easily. For me, I don’t think I would ever opt for this over my free hand gel or liquid liner. But I think for someone who isn’t used to free hand application and wants to try out this style I think it would work well. It’s a great idea, it’s just not working for me.
For those wondering my other make up includes: Illamasqua Skin Base in Shade 03, Illamasqua Blusher in Morale, Ilah Brows Brow Powder in Blonde, Lancome Hypnose Mascara and colours from my custom Shu Uemura palette.
What do you think? Have you tried eyeliner appliques?
