I love trying out new brands, so when I was sent items from AKA Cosmetics, I was excited to find out what it was all about. AKA Cosmetics is a UK brand, with most of their items actually manufactured here too, they launched in 2011 and feature a full range of colour cosmetics.
Today, I’m going to give you a little review of two of the lip products, Lipgloss in Red Lotus and Lipstick in Vamp.
I’m not loving the choice of white packaging, this is going to get tatty so quickly, but on the plus, as least it’s more original than the typical black packaging that we usually see in colour cosmetics packaging. The branding is a bit bland, but for a young brand I can’t criticise too much, it’s inspiring to see a new colour cosmetics brand trying to tackle such a saturated market.
This lipstick looked so appealing in the tube, a deep berry purple shade. Only problem that I encountered here is that I couldn’t screw the bullet down once I had screwed it up, so I think that’s broken already, which is a shame.
Swatched, the AKA Vamp Lipstick comes out a dark purple with irredescent shimmer in it, the shimmer is blue toned which is quite unusual. This shade reminds me of something that Illamasqua would produce, except this one doesn’t have as much pigment in it. It’s a nice creamy texture though.
The AKA Red Lotus Lipgloss is a pinky red, also with a little shimmer, it’s not too sticky. I’m not a huge lipgloss wearer, so don’t have much to compare this one too.
Here’s the lipstick actually on, I promised I wouldn’t be doing the arm swatching forever more!
The lipgloss actually looks great layered over the top of this lipstick shade….
Overall, honestly, this hasn’t been something I’ve been reaching for very often, but since they both retail for under £10, it would be a brand that would be worth a little dabble, same price as buying high street, but you’d be supporting a small UK business instead.
Have you tried AKA Cosmetics?
What do you think of these shades?
