So, I thought I’d mix it up a bit and do another film/television post. Since, next to beauty my love of films and television comes second, I thought it only right that it should start making an appearance on my blog. Did you know that I did my degree in Cinema, Photography and Television? So technically, I’m qualified to write about this stuff (not that my degree has come in much use, ever!).
Since I figured out that I can hook my Nintendo Wii up to the internet and play LoveFilm though my nice, big television I’ve been spoilt for choice when it comes for things to watch, in addition to the usual discs through the post that we get on LoveFilm too, I’ve been watching a lot of TV!
Here’s what I’ve been watching in March…
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Series 5-7
Ultimate comfort television for me, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was my favourite show as a kid and I haven’t seen it since school days, so have thoroughly been enjoying re-watching from the start on LoveFilm. I’m on series 7 at the moment and very close to the end. Gosh, series 7 is depressing though, so many horrible monsters and unpleasantness. I’m liking the extra air time for Spike, but missing Giles and Angel. Once I’ve finished with Buffy, I’m totally going to watch the spin off, Angel again.
Prison Break Series 1
Just finished watching series 1 of Prison Break for the first time. What a ridiculous show. I really enjoyed it nonetheless, great characters and some questionable acting, but really engaging. It’s one of those shows that you can never watch just one episode. Only thing that spoils it, is knowing that they’ve made four seasons so that it’s unlikely that the main characters will die and that it’s not going to have a happy ending very quickly. Excited to continue watching this one, but my tip for anyone starting it, you really have to suspend your disbelief because the stuff that happens in this is honestly absurd.
Supernatural Series 1-3
My sister introduced me to Supernatural and I have no idea why I haven’t watched it sooner. It’s basically the boy version of Buffy, so there was no reason why I wouldn’t love it. Supernatural is much scarier than Buffy, the monsters and ghosts and mean but it still retains a sense of humour in the wonderful pairing of lead characters Sam and Dean, of which Dean, is super hot. A little formulaic, but has enough going on that I’m still interested near the end of series 3, there’s tons more to watch.
Game of Thrones Series 1
The main reason I watched this was because of Sean Bean and the hype around it. Didn’t really know what to expect from it and found it a little slow to get into, but by the end I’m very interested. Super high production values, great cast and interesting characters. Not much is given away about certain aspects of the story so there is some mystery throughout. It was the final scene of the series that got me really excited about the show. In addition you’ve got sword fighting, wolves and hotness in the form of John Snow, that’s enough reason to watch surely?
House Series 8
I’ve been watching House since the start, mainly due to the amazing character played by Hugh Laurie who makes an otherwise standard medical drama into something with much more character. Apparently the character of House and his best friend Wilson are based on the characters of Holmes and Watson from the Sherlock Holmes stories, a little fact that I think adds some interest to the mix. After watching a whopping 8 series of House, I’m now starting to loose a little interest, but the characters are still strong enough for me to continue tuning in.
Would love to hear your recommendations of what else I might like to watch and what you’ve been watching too. I’m excited to see series three of The Walking Dead and series two of Game of Thrones, they are both next on my list.
Have you seen any of these shows? What did you think?
What are you watching at the moment?
