I had such a strange day yesterday. Awesome but strange. The weirdness started the night before, I’m not going to go into details (because that’s not lady like) but anyway, I ended up at my friend’s instead of my own home and had to get the first train south from her house to get home, before getting changed and going to work, I was surprisingly ok considering. That has never happened before. Another thing that has never happened before is being asked to get involved in judging something! So I was delighted when super cool mag, Company Magazine asked me to join their panel for the upcoming #BbloggerApproved Beauty Awards. Seriously, I’ve been wanting to get published because of my blog for ages, and it’s been one of my ambitions for the year, so I’m SO excited that this happened.
So, just going to tell you a little about the day and what you can expect to see in the coming months…
We joined the Company Magazine beauty team at The House of St Barnabas in Soho, a very strange but beautiful building connected to a church. Afternoon Tea was on the cards with an endless supply of mini bagels, cake, tea and fruit. I must admit that I ate mainly cakes. Not cool. The rest of the blogger panel included Zoe from London Lipgloss, Lily Pebbles from What I Heart Today, Sabrina from A Little Obsessed, Suzie from Hello October and Amelia Liana from Liana’s Beauty. I must admit, I was feeling a bit nervous to be among some of the blogger elite.
I wore a new Mod Dolly dress with a Ted Baker belt, Tatty Devine necklace, lace ankle socks and JuJu Jellies shoes. Alas, I did not realise at the time how see through the top of this dress is when photographed. I’m going to pretend that it was intentional and that I’m being on trend matching my underwear to me outfit and letting it shine through like that. For my make up I wore bareMinerals base, Illamasqua Blusher in Morale, YSL Pure Chromatics Eye Palette 1 and Lime Crime Velvetines in Red Velvet. My hair was smooshed up with Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray.
Check out the spread. Unlimited cake, tea, juice and fruit. It really was a pretty Afternoon Tea, all served on vintage china too. So up my street. I’d like my house to look like this all the time please.
No blogger related occasion, or beauty related occasion for that matter can be complete without cupcakes and we had Hummingbird Bakery Red Velvet Cupcakes, the classics and arguably the best. Shame that I filled up on mini cakes instead and couldn’t handle one of these beauties. Also, is it just me or are full sized cupcakes the worst thing to try and eat in public, particularly in a scenario that you are likely to be photographed, spoken to and judged. Just a little observation from me. I like to make cupcake mess, but it’s not lady like.
The room was scattered with lots of beauty product samples for us to play with, products that may or may not make the short list for this year’s Company Magazine Beauty Awards. The system for creating the list was that we went through each category and discussed what our favourites were. It wasn’t just limited to what was in the room, we could nomiate anything current. So, I’m hoping that some of my more obscure choices and smaller brands that I love might get a mention, but we won’t find out until September!
We were all photographed and filmed for the Company Magazine issue and website, which is the most terrifying thing I’ve done in my career so far. I’m pretty sure my video was uber dodgy, so I’m not looking forward to seeing that. But as I mentioned again, I feel honoured to be involved with such an innovative magazine and to be able to be part of a project that blurs the lines between magazines and blogs.
Which brands do you hope will make the short list?
What do you think of Beauty Awards?
