I’m in Manchester at the moment, as I’m on a panel at a BBC Academy of Journalism panel today (weird). Anyway, last night I popped out with a couple of fellow speakers to Central Manchester for some food and a couple of beers. We were recommended Home Sweet Home on Edge Street in the Northern Quarter and thought I’d write a quick review as it was so awesome. Home Sweet Home is hidden on Edge Street, which has a bit of a Shoreditch vibe going on, it serves American food, milkshakes and beers.
The decor is super cool, the kind of style that I would expect my house to end up looking like. a Mismatch of vintage bits and pieces, cat paintings, stain glass lamp shades and cross stitch. Basically, looks like they’ve raided a super awesome charity shop. They’ve got Brooklyn Lager and BrewDog on offer too, which is an extra win.
There’s a rather kick ass milkshake menu too, I was extremely tempted by the Nutella Toasted Marshmallow milkshake, but you know that if you go for a shake you’ll struggle with the real food. So opted for something more sensible, which I’m now thinking might have been a bit of a fail. Might have missed out on the best milkshake ever, what do you think?
Opted for a BrewDog beer instead, Dead Pony Club, my preference over the Punk IPA which was the other choice. Love the BrewDog brand and always get strangely excited when I see it out and about, being so used to seeing it only in their bars in London.
I opted for the Pulled Pork bun, which came is a super fluffy brioche bun with a ton of sliced jalapeño peppers, chopped tomatoes and some yummy BBQ sauce. Look massive, but was actually a really sensible portion size, nice fries too.
Would have loved to have dessert too, but probably not the best idea after that mammoth meal.
What’s your favourite place to eat in Manchester?
Do you like American style food?
