I love having a wander around Spitalfields Market, there’s always something interesting going on and lots of retail temptations. There’s plenty of awesome places to eat too, but want if you just fancy a cuppa? Well, I’ve just discovered a very chilled Japanese inspired tea shop on the market, which is perfect for a chilled out refresh at any point in the day, so here’s Tea Smith on Lamb Street. It’s mostly a tea related gift shop, full of traditional Asian tea gifts and Tea Smith own brand tea, but they also have a Tea Bar.
The menu is vast, there’s all sorts of tea: red, black, oolong, green, raw and also chocolates and little patisserie treats too. It’s quite an overwhelming selection if you don’t know your tea jargon, however, the staff are super friendly so if you tell them your mood they’ll make you a recommendation. We tried a selection of two different types of green tea, although I can’t tell you what the names were as my memory is rubbish.
There’s nothing ordinary about the way the tea is served here either. In a traditional style, it’s presented on a wooden tray with a handle-less ceramic bowl to drink from. Because we were tasting two types of tea, you regularly get a top up from the barista, into one of the containers, so for less money than you’d spend in Costa or Starbucks you can easily spend a couple of hours here relaxing, chatting and sampling top quality teas. It’s a really interesting place, definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.
Have you been to Tea Smith in Spitalfields?
