Since I started wearing my hair in a fringe, the need for a regular hair cut has become even more crucial to my beauty routine. Previously, when I had very low maintenance hair I could easily go a year without even a trim, bad I know, what kind of beauty blogger was I? Since I decided to go for the vintage style curved fringe, known in the scene as Bettie Bangs, a good hairdresser has been even more important!

The Painted Lady salon is a mere five minutes walk from my house and they styled my hair in the Summer for Lovebox festival and it was epic! I was very excited to be able to visit again.

The Painted Lady is a small salon on Redchurch Street in the centre of Shoreditch (that’s my hood!) it’s got a vintage vibe to the decor with Sailor Jerry style tattoo swallows on the sign and bare red brick walls adorn with ceramic flying ducks and other vintage style bits and bobs. It’s a small and cosy salon which is very inviting.

Once in your place you’re offered a hot drink in a pretty vintage tea cup and saucer and a full consultation happens, I was lucky enough to be served by salon owner, Belinda. Some of you might know Belinda as the author of Style Me Vintage; she’s a pro at vintage style hair, therefore a perfect match for me.

Hair was washed and scalp was massaged using products from the Davines range, a range that I haven’t dabbled with much myself, but the main thing you need to know is that it’s a family run brand with eco and sustainability messages at its core.

For the cut, it was all about the fringe for me. Bettie Bangs require a pro who can master precision and it’s a style that many traditional hairdressers are a bit afraid of, so it was great to have Belinda’s vintage styling expertise come in handy. Belinda worked with care and great attention to detail to help me achieve the perfect fringe and finished my hair with a vintage vibe.

I love this salon, it’s a great location, very easy to get to and amazing staff. I often feel intimidated going into your usual high street or fashion focused hair salon so it’s nice to find another place that I would happily visit again. In addition to being specialists in vintage hair, The Painted Lady can offer any hair styling service in a variety of styles and also have a small area for manicures and pedicures.

  1. Your hair looks amazing!

Would you say Painted Lady is better than Rockalily Cuts? Have been going to Rockalily recently and love it but aware Painted Lady is a little bit cheaper so just wondering how they compare…

    1. Rockalilly is owned by my friend so I have a lot of love for that place. I think they are evenly matched really, for me Painted Lady is a more accessible location by a tiny bit and that’s it.
