Rediscovering gaming with thanks to cosplay and Borderlands 2…

When I was growing up we didn’t have games consoles until I was a teenager, so before that gaming was always on the PC. I was a massive fan of The Sims, Theme Park World and The Settlers (a cartoony version of Age of Empires) when we did get our first Playstation, I mainly sucked at most games, especially compared to my sister who kicked ass at almost everything. I remember teaming up to play Final Fantasy 10, when my sister would take control but my Mum and I would head online and research tips and tricks to passing some of the more difficult levels.

I’ve dipped in and out of gaming since then, mainly not having the patience to stick with it and getting stuck half way through a game (e.g. any Tomb Raider game on the PC, Zelda on the DS and Primal on Playstation, anyone else remember that? ) lately me and Miz have been playing games more, we got a PS3 and have actually found a game that I absolutely cannot fault.

That game is Borderlands 2 on the PS3. I was first introduced to Borderlands by cosplayer Sian K1tt3h and her AMAZING character costume of Gaige, as pictured above. I loved the character design and its Tank Girl vibes, after checking out the game online I was intrigued, but it wasn’t until we found a copy of Borderlands 2 for about a fiver that we got stuck in.

I’d enjoyed watching Miz play a couple of games lately, like Skyrim and we tried co-op on Beyond Two Souls, which is an incredible game but got too difficult and too creepy for our liking.

Since we bought Borderlands 2 we’ve played it pretty much everyday. The design is awesome, it kinda has a comic book vibe and has tons of humour and doesn’t take itself too seriously. You can customise and build up your character in the way I’m used to in Final Fantasy, but you’ve got fast paced game play and an interesting story too. The co-op mode works great, but it’s a game I feel like I could actually enjoy on my own too. I’ve loved having something new that me and Miz can enjoy together and I’m excited to hopefully complete this game and start something new.

Borderlands The Pre-Sequel will obviously be on my hit list, but I’ve got a copy of Final Fantasy 13 to play for when Miz goes away. Could this be the start of me not completely sucking at video games for the first time ever? My Mum plays Final Fantasy and has completed 10 a couple of times, so I’m thinking if she can do it, I should be able to as well. Watch this space to see if I can being a decent gaming girl!
