Here’s more RAD news for the geeky/alt beauty fans out there. So many of us will remember the beautiful, glittery, punk rock looks of Jem and the Holograms from the cartoon we watched as kids. What you may not know is that there’s a brand new, live action film coming out this October based on this nostalgic girl group story and of course, there’s some beauty launches coming out to tie in with this. First off, here’s the trailer….
I think it looks naff. They seem to have merely taken the concept of Jem and the Holograms and made it into some teen girl, pop band drama with a lot less glitter and some rather dodgy Lady Gaga inspired looks. I’ll still watch it but it doesn’t get me excited about the release in the slightest, even if it does have Juliette Lewis in it.
It should have looked more like this featuring the likes of Doe Deere, Traci Hines and Kota Wade, I believe they made this as a homage to the news that the film was in the works and it’s pretty awesome.
Anyway, onto the associated beauty launches! American, vegan hair dye brand, Manic Panic are releasing a range of dyes into their Amplified range inspired by the hair of the original cartoons and these looks great! I think this was a perfect collaboration, but find it interesting that it’s so lead by the original incarnation of The Holograms and not the film.
I’ve only tried Manic Panic once so far and wasn’t overly bothered personally, but I know they have lots of fans elsewhere and I do think they are a cool brand, the colour I used just wasn’t for me at the time. Anyway, no news if these will be in the UK, but I thought they were worth a share.
In other news, Sephora have confirmed they’re launching a Jem and the Holograms collection too, but there are no pics that I can find so far just the descriptions:
- Sephora + JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS Collection: A special-edition, high performance cosmetic collection captures the legacy of the JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS brand in a playful, four-piece set – eye shadow palette, liquid lip set, florescent lipstick, and compact mirror – that’s reminiscent of the 1980s animated series, known as much for its outrageously cool look as for its music.
The internet also tells me that there will be new toys, comics and a clothing collection via Shopbop. I’ll share more if it’s cool enough and when I find it. The film comes out this October so it’s rather curious that there’s so little info on the Sephora range so far.
