Shopping for Kawaii & Colourful Beauty Products in Thailand

Asia has some innovative, kawaii and amazing beauty products to offer, with Korea and Japan, in particular, leading the way in trendsetting looks and ingredients. Many of the Asian best sellers are now available from niche sellers like BeautyMART, Cult Beauty and Sephora in Europe and the UK, whereas in the past you had to raid eBay or Amazon for an often unpredictable result. If you’re planning a trip to Thailand, this is a great opportunity to go shopping for Asian beauty brands face to face, whilst also topping up your cosmetics bag for the rest of your trip. Thailand is famously affordable, with exchange rates from Euros and Pounds completely in your favour, meaning you can make your money go super far! The affordability factor varies a bit more when shopping for beauty, sure you can pick up basics for half the price (or less) than your home country, but there are still luxury brands and imported products that sit more closely with a European (or American) price point.  With the close proximity to countries like Japan, Korea and China you will discover beauty brands and products from the whole of Asia, as well as homegrown Thai brands and European classics.

In this post, we’re going to introduce you to some of the key shops for buying beauty products in Thailand with a little overview of what you can expect from each store. If you have any suggestions or questions, feel free to leave a comment or send a Tweet/Instagram message to @JayneKitsch and we’ll update this post as we learn more.

Eveandboy – Thailand’s Version of Sephora

This wonderful store is essentially the Thai version of Sephora and a great alternative to the Sephora stores that you will find in Thailand. Eveandboy features all the international brands you’d expect including Benefit, Clinique, Urban Decay and theBalm, as well as an incredible selection of Asian brands you already know or are about to discover. Peripera, Paulie, Bisous, Cute Press and Fresh Drop are just a handful of cute brands that caught our eye. Eveandboy has a massive selection of make-up, haircare and skincare and is a great place to go wild swatching or to pick up a quirky looking sheet mask or two. They have something for every budget and is a great way to get an introduction to Asian beauty brands.

Watsons – Hong Kong Chain Covering Asia and Beyond

You’ll find Watsons stores all across Asia and you’ll be experiencing a pimped up version of Superdrug. Stores are categorised by country of origin, meaning you can browse awesome products from Japan, Korea and beyond at a glance. For hunters of colourful and kawaii products, you’ll be excited to know that you can find the infamous Sailor Moon make-up collection from Creer Beaute in store, to see it in it’s full glory. Watsons is also a great place to stock up on essentials like pure coconut oil, deodorants and sanitary products as they cater to everyday needs as well as the fun stuff. They also sell silly things like Gudetama tissues, Sanrio and Pokemon sheet masks and Blythe Doll inspired hair dyes!

Beauty Buffet – Dinky Kiosks Packed with Cute Beauty

These little candy store style beauty shops are dotted around Thailand and full of beauty brands from across Asia. You can find many Thai best-sellers here and some of the more off-beat products we’re not used to seeing so much in Europe including skin lightening products, Bird’s Nest face treatments and Snail Slime products. Brands worth looking out for if you’re focused more on the adorable side of beauty are The Bakery, Gino McCray and Scentio.

Etude House – Cult Status Korean Beauty Brand

It was such a joy to get to visit an Etude House standalone store as it was one of the first Asian brands I bought via eBay many moons ago!  Etude House originates from South Korea and you’ll find their prodcuts in a variety of stores and countries across Asia. Their shops are bright, cheerful and packed full of appealing skincare and colour cosmetics. What stood out to us the most on this trip, were the new Monster cleansing collection, including Micellar Water cleansers and their customizable lipstick options available as dual-tipped and single mini lipstick choices. They have some seriously cute packaging design.

Beauty Cottage – Pretty Victoriana Inspired Beauty Brand

If you’re already a fan of brands like theBalm, Benefit or Rose & Co Patisserie de Bain, you’ll likely dig the aesthetic of Beauty Cottage. The store offers a range of skincare, face masks and colour cosmetics with packaging and design inspired by vintage, Victorian style. If you want a cheap pick-up check out their face masks or go swatch mad with their lovely range of lipsticks, nail polishes and more. You’ll find these stores all over the place and it’s all very pretty.

7-11 – Highly Convenient Convenience Store with Beauty Gems

If you’ve ever visited America or Canada you’ll probably fully away of the corner shop chain, 7-11, famous for it’s Slurpee slush drinks and affordable snacks and take-out food. Asia is packed full of these stores and they’re essential for any budget traveller, with awesome ready meals and snacks to help you keep the bills down. Surprisingly, these stores are also great for quick, small beauty pick-ups too including handy sachets of things like Aloe Vera gels, BB creams and depending on the size of the shop, a whole bunch of other beauty treats including Tiger Balm, sheet masks and Cute Press bits and bobs. Well worth a browse if you’re there anyway or need to pick up essentials like sun cream or basic medicines.

So, that’s Thailand beauty shopping at a glance and you can see that there’s loads of fun stuff to choose from. We’re sure we’ll discover more as we explore the country more and if you spot anything you want investigating let us know!
