For my next trick for #Inktober I went along another nostalgic route with a series of creature creations inspired by Greek myths and legends. These stories are ones I grew up with from my Dad reading the Iliad and the Odyssey to me as a little one, to obsessively watching Xena & Hercules on Channel 5. One of my first memories of seeing stop motion animation was the creature creation of special effects legend, Ray Harryhausen, particularly in Clash of the Titans (1918, Dir. Desmond Davis) which I still dig today.
This is one of my favourite illustration series that I’ve done recently. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is one of my favourite films, brought to us by the mega Edgar Wright, I’ve watched is SO many times. Miz bought me the Scott Pilgrim comic book collection last year, created by Bryan Lee O’Malley and Leslie Hung. I’m on book 4 of the series right now and I love it just as much of the films. Anyway, I set myself a challenge of recreating lead character Ramona Flowers as a series of mash ups and here’s what I came up with.
Here’s something new from my blog! I’m going to start using it as a place to log any interesting projects I’ve worked on in my personal and professional life. So you’ll soon see this site evolve even more into a portfolio website rather than just the blog that it was before. Over the past year, it’s been truly awesome to get back on track with being creative and practising my art, so I’m looking forward to sharing more in this area. You can get an overview of other projects I’m involved with on my homepage.
