When make up artist and generally all around creative, Alex Box asked me to help give her new project a shout out, how could I refuse? This wonderful being has helped me learn a lot about make up, art, being creative and being myself over the years, I owe her a lot. I’m very lucky […]
Whether you’re jumping on a plane for your next adventure or just need a way to organise all the crap in your bag, a good cosmetics bag is a useful accessory. When going through airport security, I always find it super useful to keep all the liquid and bits that need checking separate to the […]
If you’ve been reading my site for a while or know me personally, you know I’m a nerd when it comes to hair and DIY colouring. Part of me thinks I should have become a hairdresser or a make-up artist, but chances of that happening as I’m turning 30 are looking unlikely. You can’t do […]
It’s been a little while since I wrote a beauty post and I’d forgotten how much of a minefield shopping for genuinely cruelty free & vegan cosmetics can be. Whenever I have a choice, I always choose cruelty free with make-up and almost always choose vegan, I’m not perfect after all and it does become […]
Two of my favourite things are Sugarpill Cosmetics and Sanrio characters, so naturally, when I spotted this news on Instagram this morning I did a little squeal of joy. If you don’t know Sugarpill already, where have you been? You can check out some of my old blog posts featuring them linked above and you can also shop a selection at CutECOsmetics.
And here are the first pictures of the Sugarpill Little Twin Stars Limited Edition collection…
You know me, I like to mess around with my hair and give hairdresser’s mild anxiety. However I’ve worked with beauty and hair brands for over 6 years, whilst being interested in the field since forever. I’m also a bit of a nerd when it comes to the science and the ingredients, so I like to think that I go into DIY hair colouring and cutting with some decent knowledge and a little bravery. I’m not professional, although I would have loved to have seen where that career choice may have taken me, I enjoy being in charge of my hair, whilst also being able to save time and money that I don’t always have to pay a professional. If I could pay a professional every time I feel like changing my hair, I would.

This is an unusual anniversary to celebrate, today it’s been a whole year since I posted a selfie to my personal social media. Yes, I’ve still been in photos, but none of my usual posy, look at how fabulous my make up and colourful hair is type of post that I was so regularly sharing. So, why have I been selfie free for a year and what did I learn? Here’s some musings from me sin selfie.
I’m not talking about natural beauty here as that would be a cliche. I wanted to talk about basic beauty. Being OK with yourself without any make-up or artificial enhancements and how you don’t have to spend a fortune on complicated products to be able to treat and improve your natural beauty from the comfort of your own home. I’ve been interested in the use of natural remedies and ingredients for a long time. My Mum’s a keen gardener and her green fingers have transferred to me now that we finally have space for a few plants on our balcony. I’ve worked with natural beauty brands a lot over my career as well, I love seeing how brands take inspiration and proper performance products from nature. It’s basic beauty, something we should all learn to embrace a little more often. Oh! And I’ve spent today doing some little watercolour illustrations to go alongside this, because I need to practise my art more often.
My recipe for basic beauty, illustrated by me in pen and watercolour paint.
I’ve been a supporter of independent brands, designers and artisans since the start of this blog and longer. My grandparents were potato farmers and running your own business runs in the family through many generations on both sides. So it’s only natural that I have an interest in small businesses and the stories behind brands. I guess that’s how I ended up doing what I do, helping make other people’s brands awesome for a living and hopefully one day, I’ll have my own brand bigger than what I’ve already done.

Another brand that I’m not sure how I stumbled upon, I think I found them on Instagram originally and totally dug their concept. Oh Deer Sugar is an Australian based brand run by two vegan friends Shani & Nikki and they’ve been baking up non-edible bakery goods since 2013. They now have an Adelaide based store, a totally divine Instagram account and an online shop that normally offers international delivery.
