#IndieLove: 10 Pokemon Themed Handmade & Indie Gift Ideas

Time for another geeky gift guide from the wonderful indie designers and makers of Etsy. This time it’s a blast of 90s nostalgia packed full of cuteness that still captures our hearts today, Pokemon!

As one to never follow trends, I was the only one at school that didn’t buy into Pokemon cards at the peak of their UK based popularity. Being the odd one out, I claimed to love Digimon more and put myself in the socially awkward position of having no one to swap cards or play with, classic me. Anyway, I helped my sister swap her cards a few times and definitely spent a lot of time watching Pokemon cartoons as a kid. Anyway, if you’ve got some Pokemon loving lovelies in your life that you need to shop for or just fancy catching a cute treat for yourself, read on to find out where to find my edit of Etsy Pokemon pretties.

Illustration: Creatures from Greek Myths & Legends

For my next trick for #Inktober I went along another nostalgic route with a series of creature creations inspired by Greek myths and legends. These stories are ones I grew up with from my Dad reading the Iliad and the Odyssey to me as a little one, to obsessively watching Xena & Hercules on Channel 5. One of my first memories of seeing stop motion animation was the creature creation of special effects legend, Ray Harryhausen, particularly in Clash of the Titans (1918, Dir. Desmond Davis) which I still dig today.

Sailor Moon Clothing & Swimwear Collection from KLING

Now is the time to get back to what my blog was originally about. Sharing awesome, beautiful stuff I stumble upon on my own accord in real life, on the internet or on a TV or cinema screen. This week whilst out shopping for Miz’s birthday present, I popped into KLING, one of the fashion stores in Spain that has really captured my imagination. It makes me think of Louche from Joy, Meadham Kircheoff and makes dressing like a cartoon character or 90s kids TV presenter a reality with a sweet, doll like 60s vibe which is totally my fave. The main thing that made me squeal on this trip was KLING’s newly launch Sailor Moon inspired collection which includes dresses, knitwear and even swimwear!

I HAZ MERCHT…

One of the most frustrating things as a creative person is having an idea which you don’t have the time/energy/money to see through to the end. For me personally, it’s always a massive de-motivator which has frequently stopped me from starting projects in the first place, which is of course, puts you back at that cycle of wanting to do something but not quite getting there. So, to help me get over that barrier, I’m pleased to announce my first Mercht campaign, which is live for the next 8 days only, you can find it here.hamburger-steven-by-jayne-kitsch-on-mercht-3
