Marshall Street, off Carnaby Street, Soho, London
What a lovely lunch break I have had today! (Despite the unexpected rain!) Today, I popped into The Powder Room on Marshall Street, Soho, seconds from the buzz of Carnaby Street, The Powder Room is a haven for all those lovers of Vintage Glamour, Burlesque and Mad Men. First off The Powder Room is a beauty salon, they offer hair styling, manicures and make-overs, but not as you’ve seen it before!
Personally, I’m not a frequenter of Beauty Salons, because generally they are not very inviting and I feel intimidated by them. The Powder Room is not like that, the front of the building is a shop, selling make-up by the likes of Paul & Joe, Mavala and Lola. They also hold a sweet little collection of hand-made hair accessories, lovingly made by one of the Powderpuff Girls themselves! This shop front, for me at least, makes the place far more inviting and treasure trove for anyone who can’t resist pretty packaged make up.
Once inside, there is a lovely  treatment area in the back of the shop with Hollywood style glamour mirrors, pretty pink make-up brushes and gorgeous vintage mirrors, so exciting, appealing and welcoming! Downstairs, the Soho branch has a surprisingly large space, that they can optimise for hen parties and busy weekends. This area can also be booked out for private events and photoshoots! As with upstairs, the decor is a vintage girlies dream, featuring antique furniture, cake stands and even a row of vintage cinema seats!!
The staff were so friendly and welcoming, really chatty and genuine. I chose to go for a manicure, as much as having some victory rolls in my hair appealed, I didn’t think it would be appropriate for the corporate environment that I was to return to! Seated on a black velvet couch in front of a mirrored table, I was served a cup of tea in a vintage teacup, with a pink wafer biscuit on the side and given the choice of lush nail colours from the highly acclaimed Mavala range. I went for a delicious plummy red shade, which dried to a gorgeous glossy, sparkle. We had a great chat whilst my nails were getting primped and she did a great job!
It was a genuine delight to discover The Powder Room, who also have an online shop and a branch in Shoreditch too! A fantastic shop, with a great range of high quality products, merchandised to perfection! The salon offers something for ever budget and personality, drawing inspiration from vintage looks from the 40s to the 60s, you are sure to leave feeling glamorous and relaxed. A treatment at The Powder Room would make an excellent gift, or a fantastic way to complete your look for a special occasion.
In addition to the bricks and mortar salons, The Powder Room offers The Powderpuff Girls, a team of make up artists, massage therapists, manicurists and hairstylists who are available for weddings, parties and corporate events.
