I’ve previously reviewed this lipstick a while ago, but the photos weren’t very useful, so thought I’d review it again with more useful and accurate photos. This is my favourite red lipstick that I’ve tried so far, plus it’s from my current favourite brand, Illamasqua.
Illamasqua Lipstick in Encounter is a perfect shade for a vintage look, it’s a classic matte red. Apologies for my sticky finger prints on the tube, but unfortunately, the downside of this product is that the packaging is very prone to marking, I’ve had this lipstick for about six months, so that’s what it looks like now.
As you can see this Illamasqua lipstick is a strong, warm red with a matte finish. It has a slight orange undertone. The lipstick is so strongly pigmented and such a strong matte finish that you really can’t apply straight from the tube, as it tugs and does not glide on as you’d usually expect from a lipstick. This doesn’t bother me though, as with such a strong colour you are better applying with a brush so a precise finish.
I love how this lipstick looks with my skin tone, I think all pale girls should wear red lipstick as much as possible, it look amazing. Apologies for the not so accurate lipstick application, photos were taken at night, when I didn’t have much patience for lipstick application. I love the colour of Illamasqua Encounter lipstick and the best thing is that it lasts for ages. It is quite a dry feeling lipstick, but I think that is expected from such a strong pigment. The way lipsticks aren’t drying is that they feature a moisturising agent, you couldn’t have a truly matte lipstick with a moisturiser in I don’t think.
For those who are interested, my foundation is Youngblood Loose Mineral Foundation in Pearl, Youngblood Peony Pressed Blush, Youngblood Mineral Lengthening Mascara in Blackout and Cargo Boogie Nights Eye Pencil in Blue.
