As my regular readers will know I am a huge fan of American make up brand, Lime Crime. Yes, there’s loads of controversy around the brand its founder, but at the end of the day the products on their own are fantastic quality and super different from anything else on the market. I’m a huge fan. Today, I’m reviewing one of the latest additions to my collection, Lime Crime Opaque Lipstick in Poisonberry, part of the Alchemy collection that launched around Halloween last year. First off, how can you not love the packaging, it’s purple, holographic and has a flipping Unicorn on it, surely that’s the best thing ever?
This is quite an unusual shade, in the bullet is a super dark, blackberry, almost a Ribena shade of purple with a touch of a shimmer in it. It’s delightful. I’ve been a fan of purple lipsticks for a long time, but haven’t found many that I felt I could pull off. As with the rest of the Lime Crime lipsticks, the texture is creamy and smells of cocoa butter. Delicious! How can you not love a lipstick that smells like chocolate?!
When applied the colour is more sheer, closer to a black cherry shade, however, the colour is buildable. So if you want a pretty wash of berry colour it works for that, or you can build it up for a bolder purple lip. A super versatile shade, which I can’t stop wearing at the moment. It might look like a scary colour to try, but it really does work for a lot of skin tones and styles. On pale skin, it’s a bold statement and on darker skin tones it would also be wonderful. Here it is worn with Illamasqua Blusher in Lover, bareMinerals Original Foundation, bareMinerals Mineral Veil, Clinique Mascara, Illamasqua Precision Ink in Wisdom and a finishing touch of white MUA eyeliner.
My hair colour is this set of photos is La Riche Direction in shade Fire. It really grabbed on my lighter ends and ended up a bit pink, which I’m totally not cool with. So didn’t stick with this shade for long. However, with it being a semi-permanent conditioning shade, I feel I can experiment without causing a lot of damage to my hair, so why not mess about a bit?
What do you think of purple lipstick?
Have you tried anything from Lime Crime?
