So last week it was my birthday and last night I had my birthday party at Roadhouse in Covent Garden with a film and TV character fancy dress theme. For my costume I finally got to recreate the fabulous Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy, I love dressing up but just haven’t had the opportunity to do many fancy dress things, so this was the perfect excuse. I’m so pleased with the finished result, especially the make up, so here goes, starting off with my favourite portrait of the night…
I used a YouTube tutorial from Kandee Johnson as my inspiration for this look, so let me tell you all about the make up products that I used….
To start off, I primed my eyes with cream pigments. I used my Illamasqua Liquid Metal Palette, one of my first Illamasqua purchases! I used colours Solstice (gold) on the brow bone and the centre of the eye and Resolute (red bronze) in the crease. On top of these cream bases I applied colours from the Lime Crime China Doll Palette: Goldfish (metallic yellow) and Fly Dragon Fly (bright red) over the top. For a touch of shimmer I used Sugarpill Chromlust in Goldilux. For the dark brown detail under the eye and on the water line I used Concrete Mineral Eyeshadow in Revolver. I finished with Lash Domination Mascara from bareMinerals and some false lashes.
For the statement brows I bought some orange fabric flowers from a home decor shop and cut them up to make the separate pieces, I then used Spirit Gum to apply these and layer them. Spirit Gum is very messy, but really did the job, they stayed put all night long!
I used Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Foundation in Porcelain, contouring with Illamasqua Gleam Cream in Supernatural. For the cheeks I applied Illamasqua Powder Blushers in Hussy and S.O.P.H.I.E.
First off I applied Rimmel Matte Kate Lipstick in shade 110, with Smashbox Heat Wave Lipgloss in Electric Orange with a dab of Sugarpill Chromalust in Goldilux to the centre of the lips.
My current hair colour is L’Oreal Feria Paprika Power with Directions La Riche Pillabox Red over the top. I styled my hair by plaiting it when wet with some Bumble & Bumble Thickening Hairspray and then added extra texture with Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray. My rose crown is from By Frankii, which you can find on Etsy.
This was a very affordable and easy costume to put together. The corset top was about £25 from eBay, the leggings only £12 from Boohoo, the ivy from eBay and my shoes are Melissa Toffee Apple Shoes from Poste Mistress.
And check out how awesome a bunch of my friends looked…
What was the last fancy dress that you did?
What do you think of my Poison Ivy version?
