You all know how much I love Illamasqua right? Well, the other thing I love in the world of beauty is red lips, so when this landed in my mail box, I was a very happy girl. For Valentine’s Day this year, the amazing Illamasqua have combined these three lip colours and their Throb nail polish into one dinky parcel ideal for a gift from someone or to yourself and if you’re after a perfect red pout, this trio is for you!
We have Maneater Lipstick, Fiesty Colouring Pencil and Touch Intense Lipgloss, each colour is available individually so don’t worry if you don’t get hold of the set in time, as I’m sure this won’t be around for long. I already have Throb nail polish so decided not to review it here, but if you do a quick blog search I’m sure you’ll find a review from a couple of years back, it’s my favourite red nail polish.
Anyway, to the products! You’ll be glad that I got my face out for you so you can see the products actually in the right place and hopefully in all their glory, however, the lack of natural lighting does mean that Mister flash gun had to make an appearance so naturally, bear that in mind. I’ve layered the products so you can see each on their own and as a combo.
First up, Feisty Colouring Pencil! An orange toned red that I just adore, this pencil is creamy enough for a easy application but also provides a lush matte finish, I’ve worn this on its own quite a few times now.
My old favourite Illamasqua red was Encounter, which I believe is now a dead product, so Lipstick in Maneater is a great replacement, a matte red again, very brick red and classic. Perfect for a vintage inspired red pout. Creamy to apply, so actually possible to provide a good application from the bullet, as it glides on. Doesn’t last as long as my red lipstick of choice, Lime Crime Velvetines but it’s satisfactory.
Intense Lipgloss from Illamasqua is a highly pigmented gloss, this is shade Touch. If you are a regular reader you’ll know that I’m really not a lipgloss fan so have to say that I don’t like how this feels and wouldn’t wear it for a long time as it’s think and sticky and that’s just not my bag. However, if you want a highly pigmented red lipgloss with a touch of metallic this is a good choice, I think all lipglosses I’ve tried (except the Moxie ones from bareMinerals) are gross, so tell me what you think of these ones please, so that I can genuinely decide if it’s a nice product or not.
Despite my loathing for lipgloss, you can see in the picture that with the three products layered you can get a really striking, metallic red lip with loads of gloss and pigment. Personally, I’ll skip the gloss, but I hope you agree that it does look great, even if I am at risk of hair stuck to mouth syndrome and lipgloss taste on everything.
What’s your favourite red lipstick?
What do you think of the Illamasqua Valentine’s collection?
